Light of my Life is a scratchboard image of vases with underwater roses and floating candles. The image was created by scratching through the black outer layer of a scratchboard revealing the white clay below the surface. The scratch marks in the white clay producing a black and white image. Inks were painted onto the white scratches adding the color to the final image.
I am a scratchboard artist who has enjoyed drawing and painting throughout my life. In the fall of 2001 I was introduced to the scratchboard medium through a course at the University of New Hampshire. I took an immediate liking to this art form as it combines drawing and painting to create three-dimensional effects. Scratchboard art is very detail oriented requiring patience as well as an eye for form, light, and shadow.
