Deer walking through a field on the night of the super moon. The image was created by scratching through the black outer layer of a clayboard into white clay. The scratch marks in the white clay produce the final image. This scratchboard art piece though mostly black and white has subtle hints of color added to the white scratchmarks.
I am a scratchboard artist who has enjoyed drawing and painting throughout my life. In the fall of 2001 I was introduced to the scratchboard medium through a course at the University of New Hampshire. I took an immediate liking to this art form as it combines drawing and painting to create three-dimensional effects. Scratchboard art is very detail oriented requiring patience as well as an eye for form, light, and shadow.
